Naturally occurring perchlorate has been detected in potash ore deposits in mines located near Carlsbad, New Mexico and from Saskatchewan (Canada). Potash ore samples from New Mexico contained perchlorate concentrations ranging from 25 to 3700 mg/kg. These ores are believed to be between 240 and 250 million years old (Renne et al., 2001).
